Front cover illustration
A pellet of Streptomyces coelicolor A3(2) grown in chemostat culture at a low dilution rate (0.02 h-1). The pellet was stained using BacLight (Cell Viability Kit; Molecular Probes) and the image collected by deconvolution microscopy. The green areas of the pellet indicate hyphae with intact functioning membranes; the red areas are those with compromised membranes. Photograph courtesy Dr G. Hobbs, Liverpool John Moores University, Ismini Nakouti, Liverpool John Moores University, and Dr Paul A. Hoskisson, University of Aberdeen. See the review by Hoskisson & Hobbs in this issue, pp. 3153-3159.
