Sporangia (fruiting bodies) of a slime mould, Dydimium iridis, of the order Physarales. The slime mould grew as a plasmodium on mycelium of Fusarium spp. emerging from grain samples laid out on agar for the evaluation of fungal contaminants. The fruiting bodies developed upon exposure to UV light. Image courtesy Dipl.-Ing. Dr Michael Zapf, Lehrstuhl fur Technische Mikrobiologie, Technische Universitat Munchen, Freising, Germany.
