Front cover illustration
Mouse bone-marrow-derived macrophages infected with GFP-expressing Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1. Nuclei are stained red with ethidium bromide and endoplasmic reticulum is stained blue with ER-Tracker Blue-White DPX. The macrophages were washed after 20 min exposure to the bacteria, leaving behind phagocytosed bacteria which are readily apparent. The upper part shows DBA/2 macrophages; the lower part shows C57BL/6 macrophages. Image courtesy Hongwei David Yu and Vincent E. Sollars, Joan C.
